On February 1, Dr. Mark Taubman will complete his nine-year term as URMC’s CEO and Dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, capping two decades of leadership at URMC -- leading our Cardiology division, the Department of Medicine, Dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, and finally, as our CEO and Dean. On Dr. Taubman’s watch, our UR Medicine health system grew in size, scope and quality. Our medical and nursing schools became larger and more selective, and research funding grew.We invested in forward-leaning facilities to meet tomorrow’s needs. He changed our inclusivity trajectory—naming more women to leadership positions and making unprecedented gains in student diversity.Today, our workforce is more inclusive, equipped with tools to make URMC an exemplar of high-quality, equitable care. Perhaps his crowning achievement was leading the medical, operational and financial integration of our teaching, research and patient care missions. That’s because Dr. Taubman, like the Medical Center’s founders, is a clinician-scientist who believes in the power of discovery and learning to transform the patient experience. He knows that treating disease will never be as powerful as curing or preventing disease. And that’s the very reason academic medicine exists!Dr. Taubman, we thank you for defining Medicine of the Highest Order, and for leaving us in the most capable hands with your successor David Linehan, MD, who shares his staunch optimism regarding academic medicine.#ThankYou #URMCPeopleInspired #AcademicMedicine #HealthcareInnovation #MedicineOfTheHighestOrder #ThankYouDrTaubman

Forget about learning how to formulate a differential diagnosis or comprehensive treatment plan for these future "doctors" - just like we saw in Nazi Germany, physicians in the US today are no longer prioritizing learning to become healers, rather they must denounce medical ethical principles, which prioritize the sanctity of individual human life, and instead they must pledge alegience to racist dogma, dutifuly embrace critical social ideology and by all means necessary, justify the desecration of the hippocratic oath to dehumanize the patient for the sake of their "progressive" collective goals. ... "Stanford Medical School sprinkles lessons on "microaggressions," "structural racism," and "privilege" throughout its curriculum. Residents at Yale Medical School must complete an "Advocacy and Equity" sequence focused on "becoming physician advocates for health justice," while those in the infectious disease program must complete additional lessons on "Diversity, Equity, and Antiracism."Columbia Medical School promotes an "Anti-bias and Inclusive" curriculum by encouraging educators to use "precise, accurate language." Instead of "women," guidelines for the curriculum state, faculty should refer to "people with uteruses." https://lnkd.in/gxstNgJq

According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, there are projections of a physician shortage of 86,000 by 2036 (https://lnkd.in/edb6K-sR) (!). If you yourself or know a friend, a family member, a student, a church-goer, a career-changer, an individual who aspires to become a future physician, have them apply to American University of the Caribbean. Applications for Sept. 2024, Jan. 2025 and May 2025 are live onhttps://www.aucmed.edu/.The path to serve patients and practice medicine can be a long and arduous one, therefore don't wait and apply today to a premier, world-renowned medical school in the Caribbean. An institution that was founded in 1978 and four more years until the 50thanniversary - it has outstanding faculty, a strong alumni network of 7,500+, and a staggering 98% first-time residency attainment rate for 2023-2024 graduates. The 20 months of medical sciences courses are held in Sint Maarten (for US citizens and permanent residents) as well as a UK Track in Preston, England (for international students). Years three and four are core clerkships and elective rotations, respectively.Let's make an impact to combat the physician shortage — otherwise ourselves, our families, our loved ones — may feel the ramifications of healthcare later on. Let's continue to strive to see another day.

I frequently write about the critical need for increased investment in primary care, which will help us build our primary care workforce and recruit the best and brightest in medicine to choose primary care specialties. Building a robust primary care workforce requires us to think comprehensively about the issues that have led us to where we are today - loss of autonomy, insufficient investment/payment, administrative burden, and a lack of focus on the value of comprehensive primary care. Another issues that needs greater attention is the role of medical schools in creating a pro primary care culture. This morning, I came across an op-ed written by a fourth-year family medicine student that reminded me of just how bright the future of family medicine is. Medical student Danielle Gabuzda wrote eloquently about the need to address medical school cultures, to bolster primary care experience in medical schools, and to invest in primary care. These are big challenges. Thankfully, there are people like the future Dr. Gabuzda entering primary care who are committed to identifying and addressing shortcomings so that we can make primary care for all a reality.
